Portrait of a consulting professional in a calm office setting

Origin

The practice grew from years of watching capable people in Bavaria and beyond struggle with German hiring rituals after long tenures. Application advice written for early-career candidates rarely fits someone who has managed teams, survived reorganisations, or returned after a caregiving pause.

Cognitive Compute was founded to give that group a place where age, experience, and German employment realities are treated as facts to work with — not problems to hide.

How we work with clients

Engagements are personal and limited in number. We prefer fewer concurrent clients so each file receives careful reading between sessions. Advice is specific to your industry history, location constraints, and financial runway — not a recycled career-change curriculum.

Meetings can take place at our Pfaffenhofen address or by video. Written materials are prepared in English or German according to the employers you are approaching.

Values that shape the advice

  • Honesty about the market. We will say when a target role is unlikely at your profile rather than encourage endless applications.
  • Respect for tenure. Long service is treated as evidence of judgment, not as a liability to apologise for.
  • Boundaries with other professions. Legal and tax questions are referred outward; we stay within employment advisory.
  • Client pace. Some transitions need speed after a fixed end date; others need deliberate waiting. We do not manufacture urgency.

Relationship to the community

Based in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, Freistaat Bayern, we primarily serve clients across Bavaria and remote clients elsewhere in Germany. We occasionally contribute unpaid guidance evenings for regional professional networks on later-career job search — details are shared with existing clients first.
